Met Alan Davies!

I went to see Alan Davies last night at the Cambridge Corn Exchange and it was one of the best stand up shows I have ever seen there. We were seated right at the back but it didn't matter at all. It helps that it's quite a small venue but the jokes would have been funny if they were told from several miles away!
We were lucky enough to meet him by the stage door afterwards and have a chat and a photo. He looked absolutely exhausted, but he still made an effort to talk to everyone that was there.
It's weird how you can learn a lot about someone through their stand up (especially if it's observational or about family life - like Alan Davies' is). I learnt that his mother died when he was very young. You would think that having to live through something that sad would not lead to a career in stand up comedy, but I have found the complete opposite is true. Every good stand up I have ever met or heard of has gone through something terrible in their life, like a family members death, a parents divorce, an abusive relationship, mental illness, etc'.
All comedy is pain + time.
You just have to wait for the memory to be distant enough, then you can make it funny, and then it's like it never happened.
